Course Change and Drop Procedure

Students may request to change their schedule or drop a course by speaking with their counselor, following the guidelines as listed below. This process is initiated after course selection is completed for the coming school year.

Accelerated Course Level Changes

  • A student requesting a level change from an Accelerated course must meet with their counselor, and may be referred to the Division Leader.

Advanced Placement Course Drops

  • Up to 5 school days from and including the first day of the year, a student may drop an AP course. Counselor will obtain parent agreement for the drop.

  • After the first 5 school days of the year, a student may request an AP course drop using a drop form, up to the end of the 8th week of the school year. If a course is dropped after the 8 week date, the student may receive a grade of WF and be entered into a study hall if space is available.

Elective Course Drops (Non-AP)

Non-AP elective course drops are where a student is asking to leave a course.
  • Up to 5 school days from and including the first day of the semester for year-long courses, and up to 5 school days from and including the first day of the semester for 1 semester courses, and be assigned to a different course (space permitting).

  • After the first 5 school days of a class by using a drop form, and be assigned to a different course (space permitting). This drop request form must be submitted and final by the end of the first 3 weeks of the year for year-long electives, or by the end of the first 3 weeks of the semester for a 1 semester elective. If a course is dropped after the set date, the student may receive a grade of WF and be entered into a study hall if space is available.

Schedule Changes

Schedule changes are where a student is staying in their listed classes but wants to rearrange the order in which classes are listed.
  • Up to 5 school days from and including the first day of the semester for year-long courses, and up to 5 school days from and including the first day of the semester for 1 semester courses. These changes are only if possible within the student’s schedule.

Zero Hour Changes/Drops

Zero Hour courses are non-drop/change for any reason, unless the Division Leader for PE/Health/Driver Ed approves the drop/change. Students wanting to change or drop their zero hour course must meet with their counselor.
