Fenton to Start Fall with Remote Learning 2.0

Starting 2020-21 with Remote Learning 2.0

Dear Fenton Families,

We hope you are safe and have found happiness over the summer.

Fenton High School will begin the 2020-21 school year using our improved Remote Learning 2.0 Plan. We have a Hybrid Learning Plan ready, but will continue with Remote Learning through at least October 16, which is the end of First Quarter (updated).

OUR PRIORITIES REMAIN CONSTANT:

• Safety and Wellness for our students, their families, and staff.


• Learning: Provide a rigorous and engaging learning experience for our student whether we are in a remote learning or hybrid learning environment.


• Communication: Communicate with our students, parents, and community partners in a timely and accurate manner.

The teachers and administrators who worked tirelessly to create these plans were regularly monitoring and consulting the guidance provided by our partners at the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois Department of Public Health, DuPage County Health Department, DuPage County Regional Office of Education, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Unfortunately, there is still much we don’t know about COVID-19, thus Fenton is expecting new guidelines throughout the year and we are committed to revising or adding to our precautions as necessary.



REMOTE LEARNING 2.0 STARTS AUGUST 12
Students should watch their Fenton email accounts for instructions about their first day of classes. Fenton has and will continue to modify our academic delivery based on your feedback and student outcomes. Teachers have started enhancing their remote learning classes and will continue learning and implementing best practices for a remote learning model. This situation is uncharted territory and we are exploring it together. The task forces that created each plan will continue to meet throughout the fall and monitor student success. These two task forces went to great lengths to bolster and enhance the remote learning experience. It will not be the same as last year. Here is what’s new:

• Synchronous Learning -- Students gather in the same virtual space at the same time to connect with their teachers and one another.


• Asynchronous Learning -- Students engage with assigned materials and projects independently at their preferred time of day.


• Parent Communication -- Teachers have set time in their schedule to communicate with parents via email, telephone calls or other forums. The schedule below shows general timeframes, but each individual teacher will provide more specific availability.


• Student Support -- Teachers will devote considerable time to following up with students outside of class and assisting with more individualized needs. Students are expected to be available and responsive throughout the school day.


• Attendance -- Student attendance will be taken daily.


• Grading -- Teachers will once again be issuing grades. Back in March Governor Pritzker mandated a No Harm Grading Policy due to the abrupt state-wide school closings. That mandate has since been lifted.


• Food Service for students will be provided

If at any point students, parents, or teachers visit Fenton for assistance or when Hybrid Learning begins, everyone will be required to wear a face covering and keep at least six feet apart. Fenton has installed a multitude of hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the building and plastic shields on many of our staff’s desks for additional safety.


HYBRID LEARNING HIGHLIGHTS

• The Hybrid Learning schedule will still contain important elements of Remote Learning.


• Students will be split into either the Blue Cohort or Orange Cohort, and they will attend classes in-person on their assigned two days.


• When students are not at Fenton, they will continue with asynchronous activities from home. Because Hybrid Learning shares so much with the Remote Learning 2.0 Plan, it is important for students to start the year strong and ask any questions right away to ensure the two models can transition smoothly.


• As we get closer to our transition into Hybrid Learning, there will be further communication with more details.

Los maestros y administradores que trabajaron incansablemente para crear estos planes monitorearon y consultaron regularmente la orientación proporcionada por nuestros socios en la Junta de Educación del Estado de Illinois, el Departamento de Salud Pública de Illinois, el Departamento de Salud del Condado de DuPage, la Oficina Regional de Educación del Condado de DuPage y Los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades de EE. Fenton ha modificado y continuará modificando nuestra entrega académica en función de sus comentarios y resultados de los estudiantes. Los maestros han comenzado a mejorar sus clases de aprendizaje remoto y continuarán aprendiendo e implementando las mejores prácticas para un modelo de aprendizaje remoto. Esta situación es un territorio desconocido y lo estamos explorando juntos. Los grupos de trabajo que crearon cada plan continuarán reuniéndose durante el otoño y monitorearán el éxito de los estudiantes. Estos dos grupos de trabajo hicieron todo lo posible para reforzar y mejorar la experiencia de aprendizaje remoto. No será lo mismo que el año pasado. Esto es lo nuevo:

• Aprendizaje Sincrónico: los estudiantes se reúnen en el mismo espacio virtual al mismo tiempo para conectarse con sus maestros y entre ellos.


• Aprendizaje Asincrónico: los estudiantes se involucran con los materiales y proyectos asignados de forma independiente a su hora preferida del día.


• Comunicación con los Padres: los maestros han establecido un horario en su horario para comunicarse con los padres por correo electrónico, llamadas telefónicas u otros foros. El siguiente programa muestra los plazos generales, pero cada maestro individual proporcionará una disponibilidad más específica.


• Apoyo Estudiantil: los maestros dedicarán un tiempo considerable a dar seguimiento a los estudiantes fuera de clase y ayudar con necesidades más individualizadas. Se espera que los estudiantes estén disponibles y respondan durante todo el día escolar.


• Asistencia - La asistencia de los estudiantes se tomará diariamente.


• Calificación: los maestros nuevamente emitirán calificaciones. En marzo pasado, el gobernador Pritzker ordenó una política de clasificación sin daños debido a los abruptos cierres de escuelas en todo el estado. Ese mandato ha sido levantado desde entonces.


• Se proporcionará servicio de alimentos para los estudiantes.

Si en algún momento los estudiantes, los padres o los maestros visitan Fenton para recibir ayuda o cuando comienza el aprendizaje híbrido, todos deberán cubrirse la cara y mantenerse al menos a seis pies de distancia. Fenton ha instalado una gran cantidad de dispensadores de desinfectante para manos en todo el edificio y protectores de plástico en muchos de los escritorios de nuestro personal para mayor seguridad.


HECHOS DESTACADOS DEL APRENDIZAJE HÍBRIDO

• Los estudiantes se dividirán en Cohorte Azul o Cohorte Naranja, y asistirán a clases en persona en los dos días asignados.


• Cuando los estudiantes no están en Fenton, continuarán con actividades asincrónicas desde casa. Debido a que Hybrid Learning comparte mucho con el Plan Remote Learning 2.0, es importante que los estudiantes comiencen bien el año y hagan cualquier pregunta de inmediato para garantizar que los dos modelos puedan realizar una transición sin problemas.


• A medida que nos acerquemos a nuestra transición hacia el aprendizaje híbrido, habrá más comunicación con más detalles.
