Virginia Salazar was named a Commended Student in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program for her score on the Preliminary SAT last year. All juniors throughout Illinois take the test each year, just like other select states. Virginia was recently given her Letter of Commendation, which says her score ranked in the top 50,000 of all 1.5 million scores. That means Virginia’s score was among the top 3% in the whole United States.

Counselor Paul Welsh said Virginia’s success is not limited to only her PSAT test score.

Virginia’s academic record speaks for itself,” Welsh said. “She ranks fourth in a class of 351 while challenging herself with the most rigorous courses we offer. The only time she ever earned less than an A was first semester of her ninth grade year. Since that time, she has earned straight A’s.”
