Update from Interim Superintendent Bentsen

Dear Fenton School Community,

We had to dismiss students early on Friday due to a power outage caused by our ongoing construction.

Students and staff did an excellent job of waiting for information and exiting the building safely. I want to thank everyone for their patience and great work in such an unusual circumstance.

ComEd restored power Friday evening and school will resume Monday with regular hours and regular activities.

Just so everyone is aware, Friday does count as a school day and will not need to be made up at the end of the year.

Remembering September 11, 2001

We are honored to establish a new annual college scholarship in partnership with the fire protection districts in Bensenville and Wood Dale. It’s called the “Travis Hall for Heroes Scholarship.”

Bensenville and Wood Dale first responders give an award to Travis Hall

Travis Hall is 18 years old from Leyden Township and he’s provided dinner for first responders all over the area every September 11th for the last 14 years, including in Wood Dale and Bensenville the last few years. Travis recruits restaurants to donate food and he also fundraises to purchase and deliver other food himself.

Travis’s mission is to make sure no one forgets the sacrifices made 23 years ago, and to make sure our local first responders know they are appreciated for what they do every day to keep us safe.

On Wednesday, during this year’s dinner, Bensenville Fire Chief Doug Halverson announced the new Travis Hall for Heroes Scholarship to benefit Fenton High School students who are pursuing fire science, EMS, or other related fields in college or trade schools.

This new scholarship is a great partnership featuring the Bensenville Firefighters Association, Wood Dale Fire Department, Bensenville Professional Association of Firefighters Local 2968 and the Wood Dale Professional Association of Firefighters Local 3594 each donating $250 to the Fenton Foundation for a collective $1,000 scholarship.

Rick Kambic and Board Member Leo Figueroa post with Travis Hall

Fenton School Board Member Leo Figueroa is the president of our Fenton Foundation and he joined with police and fire personnel from Bensenville, Wood Dale, Addison, and Itasca during Wednesday’s annual dinner.

I agree with Mr. Figueroa when he said community building is an important part of our mission here at Fenton and we are honored to work with our local first responders to cultivate the leaders and innovators of the future.

Guest Speaker on October 17

Thank you to everyone who attended our September 3 family presentation “Keeping Our Kids Cyber Safe,” brought to you by the law enforcement professionals at BeSure Consulting.

Next we are hosting a presentation at 6:30 p.m. on October 17 from nationally renowned anti-bullying speaker and drug prevention specialist Fabian Ramirez. Bully prevention is near to Fabian’s heart simply because he was bullied in middle school and knows the psychological impact that bullying can have on students.

This event is for the entire family and the entire community. Mr. Ramirez is very relatable and charismatic; click here to see a YouTube clip from a prior event.

This educational program is in partnership with Bensenville School District 2 thanks to a grant from the Bensenville Community Foundation. Both school districts are part of the Bensenville Youth Coalition, which wrote the grant application.

We invite all Fenton Families, Future Bison, and anyone else who is interested. Raising our children is a community effort.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Senior Portraits

Senior Portraits Retake/Make Up on Monday and Tuesday

Fenton's official photo company, Prestige Photography by Lifetouch, is taking senior portraits on campus Monday, September 16 and Tuesday, September 17 from 3 to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room.

Seniors who missed their appointments over the summer are encouraged to sign up. Seniors who don’t like their photo from summer can schedule a retake appointment.

You should have already received an email or letter in the mail containing a unique appointment code that is specific to each individual student and required for booking an appointment or viewing photos online.

Families can go online at https://prestigeportraits.com/ or call Lifetouch at 800-736-4753 to schedule an appointment.

Lifetouch will email photo proofs directly to Fenton families in about two weeks after the portrait session, at which point families can order online or over the phone. Students also need to select their preferred pose for the yearbook by going online or calling customer service.

Students who want to take a FREE yearbook only photo can wait until October 17 when a yearbook photographer will be available during Bison Time. If after school is a better time, students wanting a yearbook photo can drop in Monday or Tuesday before 7 p.m. and wait for an opening. Taking a photo with Prestige Photography is the only way to be featured in the portraits section of the Highlights Yearbook.

Curators of the Golden Age

Our World History classes spent the first few weeks of the school year studying golden age civilizations. Students then paired up to create detailed museum exhibits based on a civilization of their choosing.

Students even had an in-school field trip on August 28 to meet and learn from a staff member at First Division Museum at Cantigny about how to organize and present museum exhibits.

On September 6, students demonstrated their knowledge of ancient history by coming together and creating a museum full of exhibits in the Academic Resource Center. Other classes visited throughout the day to browse and ask questions about each exhibit.
