Update from Superintendent Bentsen

Dear Fenton School Community,

I’m proud to share that U.S. News & World Reports recognized Fenton High School as one of 2025’s Best U.S. High Schools.

The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings include data on nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

Fenton Ranked above or near numerous other DuPage County high schools with similar demographics. They noted the following strengths:
  • 89% Graduation Rate
  • Strong College Curriculum
  • 33% of students took at least 1 AP Exam

This is an accomplishment our entire community should celebrate and take pride in. Thank you to all our incredible students and teachers for your hard work and dedication.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Our parents and guardians should be especially proud of what we are achieving together. A great way to build yearlong partnerships is by attending Parent Teacher Conferences.

This year we have Parent Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, October 14. Virtual conferences will be available between 12:50 p.m. and 2:20 p.m. and in-person conferences are available from 2:40 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Fieldhouse.

Parent Teacher Conferences 2024

Families should have received information in the mail and by email regarding how to sign up for conferences using Google Calendar.

We encourage all families to connect with their student’s teachers and build a plan for success together.

While you're here, families of seniors should consider stopping by the FAFSA Workshop any time between 4 and 6 p.m. Our counseling team is great at helping you get started. They could also review what you've already done and provide feedback.

"Keeping Our Kids Cyber Safe"

As a part of our ongoing commitment to safety, Fenton is once again partnering with BeSure Consulting to provide education on internet safety.

Thank you to the parents who took time out of their busy schedules to attend our virtual parent presentation on Wednesday, October 1.

BeSure Consulting, a team of current and retired law enforcement professionals, shared a wide range of information on how parents can protect their children on their devices, social media, and gaming platforms. Their experience in capturing criminals and preventing crimes led to very powerful examples for us to learn from.

Parents and guardians who were unavailable to join the October 1 presentation can click here to watch a recording of it.

BeSure Consulting also gave a presentation to our freshmen class during first and second period that same day. The presentation covered sexting, cyber bullying, sextortion, the dangers of using social media, and how to report a cyber crime – among other topics.

Detective Rich Wistocki is making himself available to all students and parents at any time of day. Let us know if you would like his contact information.

Thank you for your partnership.

Students take their pictures at Picture Day 2024

Picture Day is October 16

Student portraits for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are scheduled for Thursday, October 16. These photos are taken during all PE classes and involve only one quick pose. Students who attend TCD or have PE during Zero Hour can ask for a pass during their lunch period.

The photos will be available for purchase by pre-ordering at www.lifetouch.com/ or with the order form that was distributed during Bison Time last week. Extra order forms are available in the Main Office and the Counseling Office. To order on the Lifetouch website, use the event code EVTBVQFFB.

Otherwise, these photos go into the Highlights Yearbook and are used by Fenton during various recognition programs or scholarship applications.

Photographers will be back on November 14 for picture retakes and for those who were absent during the first picture day.

Senior portraits are separate. The last call, yearbook-only photo date is October 17 during the school day in Room 304.

Exploring “Then and Now” Revolutionary War-era Issues

Students in U.S. History classes with Dr. Kelly Torres organized an American Revolution “Then & Now” Gallery Walk on September 30 to showcase research projects that connect Revolutionary-era ideals to issues today.

Project themes included taxation and protest, representation, women’s roles, media and misinformation, slavery and labor, public health, and more.

Staff and classes from throughout the school were invited to the gallery walk and asked to provide feedback on the projects.

Incubator Students Show Off Business Ideas

Students in Fenton’s newly Incubator class recently gave their first pitches for businesses they want to create. These proposals were in front of a panel of business leaders who agreed to mentor the Fenton students along their entrepreneurial journeys.

After hearing each presentation, the mentors talked amongst themselves and divided up the team of students they each wanted to mentor.

Guided by these industry-leading mentors, students experience the full range of business operations, including ideation, research, marketing, accounting, human resources, as well as the legal aspects of running a business.

The course culminates in May with a final Pitch Night, where student teams present their refined ideas to a panel of professionals with the chance to secure funding to bring their business plans to life.

Day of Service

About 80 students participated in Fenton's Day of Service on September 27 by volunteering with projects at school and throughout both communities, including at the Bensenville Park District, Redmond Park, and the Bensenville Community Public Library.

At the library, students joined with others in making blankets and crafts for Project Linus, a national organization that provides handmade blankets to children up to 18 years old who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.

Students volunteering at Redmond Park assisted with various beautification tasks.

Thank you to our community partners for welcoming our students into these real world experiences.
