Update from Superintendent Bentsen

Dear Fenton School Community,

Thank you to everyone who attended our Open House to learn about numerous school-wide topics and to meet our teachers. This year was a new format, with each department of teachers stationed in designated areas of the school and families able to choose which teacher to meet and when. We hope you enjoyed being able to prioritize your time and energy!

School and home working hand-in-hand is so important for our students. Getting to know our teachers, their expectations, and how Fenton operates is a perfect way to start the school year. Please stay in touch with your students’ teachers, counselors, coaches, and club sponsors throughout the school year. Building upon a strong foundation is always the best approach.

AP Take 5!

Congratulations to the 19 remarkable Fenton students and alums who earned 5 out of 5 points on their Advanced Placement (AP) exams last spring. Four students even earned a 5 on multiple exams! A high score, especially a 5 out of 5, means the students earned college credit while still in high school.

The Fenton Board of Education recognized these achievements during its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, September 24.

Twelve of the top scores are from returning students with more opportunities to earn college credit. Each returning student received congratulatory yard signs and Take 5 candy bars.

Homecoming

We had a fantastic Homecoming full of rivalries, fun activities, and our football team dominating the home turf with a 55-6 victory over Elmwood Park.

Thank you to the members of Student Council, Student Council Activity Sponsor Christine Casterton, Assistant Principal Julia Bray, and everyone else who helped or participated in the many activities.

Also, congratulations to all the students who were selected as Homecoming Royalty. Earning the respect and admiration of your peers is a wonderful achievement! Great job living The Bison Way.

Finally, we welcomed home several alumni during Homecoming. The biggest group was the Fenton Class of 1995, who enjoyed touring the building and catching up with each other on our STEM Wing’s new balcony.

We also had small groups from the Class of 2000, 2005, 2023, and 2025 who attended the Homecoming Football game.

Fenton alumni are always welcome to visit and reconnect with their roots. It’s also our hope that alumni will share what they’ve learned in life with our current students, who will soon embark upon some of the same adventures.

Thank you for your partnership.

Layla Hoskins presents to a Criminal Justice class

Fenton Student Explores & Recruits for Criminal Justice Careers

Senior Layla Hoskins recently visited Criminal Justice classes to share information about the Elmhurst Police Department’s Explorers Program, for which she is a member of and the program’s first ever female sergeant. Having taken Criminal Justice with Ms. Kelly Mullins last year, Layla was eager to give back to a class she enjoyed.

Layla wanted to share her experiences with fellow Fenton students who might also be interested in a career in the law enforcement field. She is recruiting and can assist anyone who is interested! The explorers offer a great opportunity to get hands-on experience working and learning with sworn police officers.
