Update from Interim Superintendent Bentsen

Dear Fenton School Community,

I want to start by congratulating Fenton Football Coach Mark Farrell on being named the Chicago Bears and Athletico High School Coach of the Week!

Coach Mark Farrell was named Chicago Bears Coach of the Week

Coach Farrell has led the football team to a 3-0 start in his first year back as head coach after 13 years away from the sport. That's the best Fenton start since 2014! His confidence, expectations, attention to detail, and strong team structure have made a big difference to our students.

This nomination was reviewed and selected by a committee of internal Chicago Bears staff and executives, as well as a few representatives from Athletico Physical Therapy. They will make a $2,000 donation to the Fenton football program.

We can’t wait to see Coach Farrell at the December 22nd game against the Lions when all the Coach of the Week recipients are recognized on the grand stage.

The Chicago Bears and Coach Farrell's family surprised him with this announcement before practice on Thursday, as seen in the video below.

If you can, join us at our home football games to congratulate and support both Coach Farrell and the entire Fenton program on their rejuvenating season.

Latino Heritage Month

Sunday, September 15 marked the beginning of Latino Heritage Month. We celebrated on Monday with a DJ at Door 1 playing a variety of popular Latino music as students entered the building. Our ALAS Club was also selling Conchas!

Keeping Our Kids Cyber Safe

As we continue to focus on student safety, BeSure Consulting will be back on Tuesday, October 1st and Friday, October 4th to give presentations on Cyber Safety to our students during the school day. We will split the school in half for each presentation to more easily fit everyone. We will send more information as we get closer to the date. BeSure Consulting is a team of current and retired law enforcement professionals.

A student poses for his picture day portrait

Picture Day is October 2

Student portraits for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are scheduled for Wednesday, October 2. These photos are taken during all PE classes and involve only one quick pose. Students who have PE during Zero Hour can ask for a pass during their lunch period.

The photos will be available for purchase at www.lifetouch.com/ or by asking your student to take an informational flier while at the portrait session. Fliers will also be distributed during Bison Time next week or parents can pre-order on the Lifetouch website using the event code EVTDKZJ8P.

Otherwise, these photos go into the Highlights Yearbook and are used by Fenton during various recognition programs or scholarship applications.

Photographers will be back on November 8 for picture retakes and for those who were absent during the first picture day.

Senior pictures are separate. The last call, yearbook-only photo date is October 17 during the school day.

Out of This State Talent

"Sing Out!" Tenor-Bass Festival is open to all current and emerging tenors and basses in grades 7–12. Fenton students spent the morning of Friday, September 20 rehearsing at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee under the direction of Zack Durlam (Associate Professor, Choral Conducting Director). The visit concluded with performances. FENTON loves attending this annual event with our Wood Dale Junior High counterparts!

Seeking Industry Leaders to work with Fenton Students

Fenton’s Community Relations Department and Career Technical Education Department have spent the last several weeks attending networking events with various chambers of commerce, such as the Greater O’Hare Regional Business Association, to find industry leaders to work with students in our new Incubator Program, for Internship Opportunities, and to attend our upcoming November 20 Career Fair.

Real world experiences put our students one step ahead of those at other schools, and help bring class lessons to real life.

Fenton Families who may want to share business wisdom can contact Michelle Papanicolaou (papanicolaou@fenton100.org), Fenton’s Director of Postsecondary Pathways, for more information.

Taking Action to Defeat Hunger

September is Hunger Action Month and food pantries across the United States are raising awareness about the many forms of food insecurity that quietly impact children, working adults, and senior citizens. Fenton High School continues to partner with the Bensenville-Wood Dale Food Pantry to address food insecurity by volunteering, fundraising, and bringing three mobile food pantries per year to our campus. If you are able, please contact the Bensenville-Wood Dale Food Pantry and ask how you can volunteer or donate funds in our name. Let’s work together to defeat hunger!
