Update from Interim Superintendent Bentsen

Dear Fenton School Community,

Our students have a four-day weekend!

Monday is Indigenous Peoples' Day and the school is closed. Tuesday, October 10 is Parent Teacher Conferences and a non-student attendance day, but we’re hoping to see as many parents as possible. There’s still time to log into PowerSchool, click on your student’s schedule, and choose “teacher comments” to get a link for available appointments on Tuesday.

Parent Teacher Conferences 2023

Virtual or phone appointments are available 12:50 to 2:10 p.m. All meetings from 2:35 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. will be in-person and held in the Field House at Fenton. We sent our families a letter and email outlining how to reserve appointments in Calendly.

While you’re at Fenton, I also encourage you to stop by the Community Room from 6 to 7 p.m. for Fenton’s Financial Aid Night. Mrs. Georgakis from the Counseling Office will give a presentation on grants, scholarships, and how to apply for financial aid.

Financial Aid Night is October 15 2024

Fenton Hosts Anti-Bullying Community Presentation

Fenton is hosting a presentation at 6:30 p.m. on October 17 from nationally renowned anti-bullying speaker and drug prevention specialist Fabian Ramirez. Bully prevention is near to Fabian’s heart simply because he was bullied in middle school and knows the psychological impact that bullying can have on students.

This educational program is in partnership with Bensenville School District 2 thanks to a grant from the Bensenville Community Foundation. We invite all Fenton Families, Future Bison, and anyone else who is interested. Raising our children is a community effort.

Fenton’s Padres Unidos meets on Thursday, October 24 to review resources and tools available to parents in a digital learning environment.

We also have resources available from our new affiliation with the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS), a large group of area schools working together to find guest speakers and produce informative literature to help families navigate life with a growing teenager.

Most programs in the Glenbard Parent Series programs are virtual and can be joined from home over the internet, and all presentations are free. We plan to communicate various upcoming presentations as the year progresses, but we invite you to bookmark their website https://gpsparentseries.org/ and sign up for their emails.

Students pack and distribute food during an October 2024 Food For Families event

Fenton Feeds its Neighbors

Twenty five Fenton students joined Mr. Kambic, Dr. Koranda, and Ms. Vasilikos to pack food from Northern Illinois Food Bank and distribute to neighbors in need during a mobile food pantry on Tuesday, October 8.

School Board President Cary Lewis and School Board Secretary Leo Figueroa also joined the effort and assisted in packing food or loading cars.

This special event was organized in partnership with the Bensenville-Wood Dale Food Pantry and allowed students to learn valuable lessons about teamwork and community service.

In total, 189 families covering about 763 individuals received enough food for a couple of days worth of meals. That little bit can make a big difference to families navigating work shortages or suffering large unexpected expenses.

Thank you to our student volunteers for generously donating your time and compassion.

Students in AP Statistics Bowl for data

Fenton Statisticians Collect Data Lane by Lane

Students in AP Statistics with Ms. Gibel Cushing enjoyed a competitive Wednesday morning collecting data at Wood Dale Bowl. Students formed numerous small groups and tracked scores of each game, including:
  • gender of the bowler
  • use of left or right hand
  • height of the bowler
  • age
  • grade level
Students will use this data for their inference unit, addressing questions such as “are there significant differences between gender or left/right handed bowlers?” The interactive component of the activity made applying mathematical formulas and analysis strategies more fun and relatable to real life.
