Update from Interim Superintendent Bentsen
Dear Fenton School Community,
The Week of October 20-26 is Principal Appreciation Week and I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to Principal Kate Ward for her exceptional leadership in this new role. She truly makes a difference in our school community.
Principal Ward’s commitment to both the staff and students is evident in everything she does. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone feels supported and valued. Her high level of involvement creates an environment where students thrive and teachers feel empowered.
Thank you Mrs. Ward for your dedication and for being such an inspiring leader. We are fortunate to have you guiding our school!
JCS Arts Grant DuPage Foundation
Thank you to the DuPage Foundation for awarding Fenton $3,000 out of their JCS Arts, Health, and Education fund. We take great pride in our performing arts!
Band Director Garett George used the grant money to bring renowned musicians Eric Hines and his band, Pan Dulce, to Fenton on Thursday, October 24 as a final tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month.
Many of our teachers brought their classes to the auditorium during 4th, 5th, and 6th periods. These culturally significant songs helped build understanding among students through a fun activity.
Safety Drill
Thank you to our students and staff for an exceptional effort during our safety drill on Thursday, October 24. The focus of the drill was to practice lockdown and barricading of the classroom in the case of a school emergency in which a lockdown is announced.
Students watched a video with their Bison Time teachers on how to barricade a classroom and then discussed or practiced barricading their door. Administrators, security staff and police were present during the drill to observe and check that classroom doors were locked.
This training is part of a larger effort to make our school safe and secure. Fenton High School utilizes ALICE principles, which stands for Alert, Lockdown/Barricade, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. It refers to the options that staff and students have in the case of an emergency based on the information known at the time.
Thursday’s drill was a success. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Sam Bentsen, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent
