Update from Superintendent Bentsen

Dear Fenton School Community,

We have a lot of student success and school pride to celebrate here at Fenton. Keep reading and, please, share all this wonderful news.

Regional Champions!

We started the weekend with a 0-0 tie in the boys soccer Regional Championship against Elmwood Park, who was playing on their home turf. Our Bison persevered in overtime and put a rebound off the keeper in the goal to clinch their fourth Regional Championship in five years. Congratulations to all our coaches and players for another remarkable year.

The very next day both our boys AND girls cross country teams also advanced to Sectionals! We saw several outstanding performances at Saturday's Regional Meet, including...

  • Girls Team tied with Glenbard South for 1st place but fell to 2nd in the seeding on a tie-breaker technicality.

  • Jocelyn Wade finished 2nd overall in the girls race

  • Susanna Malinowski finished 4th overall in the girls race

  • Amy Kroupa finished 8th overall in the girls race

  • Matthew Andersen finished 9th overall in the boys race

Principals Appreciation Week

The Week of October 20-24 is Principal Appreciation Week and we are so thankful to have Principal Kate Ward as the leader of our school! She goes above and beyond for the students and staff of Fenton High School, and makes everyone believe that anything is possible.

A Recipe for Success: Guest Chef Dishes Out Culinary Wisdom

A huge Bison thank you to Michael Maddox, College of DuPage Assistant Professor of Culinary, for visiting our culinary classes and sharing his experiences as a professional chef. He also provided information about the educational path students can expect if they too want to become a chef.

Engineering Students Explore Career Trek

Students taking Introduction to Engineering with Ms. Lauren Lemm enjoyed touring the local OSG USA complex. OSG is a leading manufacturer of taps, end mills, drills, and indexable cutting tools.
Fenton is continuing its emphasis on career pathways via career treks, guest speakers, internships, and more. These opportunities allow students to envision themselves in those jobs and then work toward the career while still in high school.
Please reach out to Michelle Papanicolaou (papanicolaou@fenton100.org), Fenton's Director of Postsecondary Pathways, if you or someone you know is interested in giving students a tour of your workplace. Inspiration is all around us.

Three Fenton Musicians Selected to ILMEA District 1 Ensembles

Congratulations to the following music students for being selected for the District 1 ILMEA Honor Festival:
  • Ezra Lukman, Cello, Orchestra;
  • Paula Serpa, Tenor, Saxophone, Band; and
  • Jan Olmos, Bass 1, Chorus.

The Illinois Music Education Association hosts nine district festivals across the state. In District 1 (Chicagoloand), over 1500 high school musicians audition for these esteemed ensembles, and only those that score high enough on that audition are accepted.

Additionally, students may qualify for the All-State Festival based off of these auditions! Congratulations to all who tried out and to those who made the cut!

The Great Escape!

Students in AP English 3 with Ms. Rebecca Norris were recently reading The Great Gatsby when they created a Roaring 20s “escape room” as a fun activity to review and discuss details from the classic literary novel.

Masters of the Green

Congratulations to Fenton’s golf team for an outstanding 2025 season. Several strong performances since August were driving forces behind exciting postseason opportunities.

Seniors Peter Anagnos and Logan Krajecki were top 20 finishers in the Fran Noyes Invite at Genoa-Kingston High School in September.

Peter Anagnos later placed 2nd in the Upstate Eight Conference boys tournament.

In post-season play, Junior Alita Thach became Fenton’s first girls golf sectional qualifier since 2011 and Logan Krajecki became Fenton’s first boys golf sectional qualifier since 2022.

A special guest made an appearance along the way. Class of 1982 Fenton Alum Pete Jordan visited practice in September and shared some of his experiences playing in the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA). He also provided tips and feedback to the Fenton students as they prepared for their upcoming matches.
