Update from Superintendent Ongtengco
Dear Fenton Families,
Our students have a four-day weekend coming up!
Monday is Indigenous Peoples' Day and the school is closed. Tuesday, October 10 is Parent Teacher Conferences and a non-student attendance day, but we’re hoping to see as many parents as possible. There’s still time to log into PowerSchool, click on your student’s schedule, and choose “teacher comments” to get a link for available appointments on Tuesday.
While you’re at Fenton, I also encourage you to stop by the Community Room at any point between 5 and 6 p.m. for my Coffee with the Superintendent meet-and-greet event. I’m always thrilled to connect with our school community.
Mrs. Georgakis, our College and Career Counselor, is hosting a Financial Aid Night presentation from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Community Room. She will explore all there is to know about grants, scholarships, and the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is a great opportunity!
I also have a number of other short updates I want to share with you:
Fenton Kermes
As we lead up to Parent Teacher Conferences, we can first unite on Saturday for a plate of awesome Latino food. This sharing of culture is in honor of Latino Heritage Month and we encourage everyone in our community to visit and celebrate together.
Our incredible partners at the Bensenville Park District will host the kermes this year due to the construction in our stadium, so please join us at White Pines Golf Club. Our team will still be cooking, so bring a big appetite!
Huge Bison Shout Out to School Board Secretary Leo Figueroa and his wife Columba. They had a vision and they brought together an incredible group of neighbors and fellow Fenton parents to make it happen. This is now our fourth Kermes!
The Kermes is a fundraiser that supports Fenton students. Even one tamale purchased is a noble symbol of support for our knowledge hungry children.
Construction Update
I’m thrilled to report that our construction project in and around our stadium is progressing on-schedule, if not a little ahead of schedule. As you know, a large underground tank was installed behind the stadium and new, larger pipes were buried in the stadium as well as various locations around our school to collect stormwater and move it into the new tank.
The tank is complete and almost all of the new pipes are connected.
Now we are getting ready to install the new artificial field turf. This incredible opportunity is a byproduct of us having to dig inside the stadium to replace stormwater pipes. Once the new field is installed, we can bring soccer home to Fenton for the first time in decades. We can also have multiple teams, clubs, and classes use the field every day without pausing to let grass regrow.
German Exchange
Over the summer we were fortunate to send 20 students to Rottweil Germany for a few weeks as part of an exchange program. This is part of our continuing effort to encourage and celebrate our multicultural roots. The students did aggressive fundraising to cover their costs, but we couldn’t have done it without a very generous grant from the Bensenville Community Foundation. Thank you to all of our community partners who work together to raise money for local programs like ours.
Last week the Bensenville Community Foundation approved another grant, this time for us to honor our commitment and host 20 German students here at Fenton. I want to give a Huge Shout Out to Lorenzo Rubio, our Division Leader for Multilingual Programs. Mr. Rubio put Fenton in the global spotlight, and the Bensenville Community Foundation is helping us look good while executing Mr. Rubio’s plan.
These 20 German students will arrive on October 28. Thank you to all our Bensenville and Wood Dale residents who agreed to host these students and give them a true Fenton Family experience.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to send an email to fentonhelp@fenton100.org

Board of Education Congratulates Students Who Earned 5s on AP Exams
Congratulations to the 15 remarkable Fenton students and alums who earned 5 out of 5 points on their Advanced Placement (AP) exams last spring. A high score, especially a 5 out of 5, means the students earned college credit while still in high school.
The Fenton Board of Education recognized each student during its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, September 27.
Seven of top scores are from returning students with more opportunities to earn college credit. Two students even earned a 5 on multiple exams! Each returning student received a congratulatory yard signs and Take 5 candy bars earlier in the school year.
Bear Down Fenton Flag Football
Thank you to Chicago Bears Coach Matt Eberflus for generously donating money for our new girls flag football team to get competition jerseys. The Mighty Bison visited Halas Hall in August to talk with female employees and learn about career opportunities in the NFL. Their visit was featured on a Fox gameday broadcast. We are so very grateful for these incredible opportunities to play ball with Bison Pride and to plan for life changing careers.
The Bison have two more games this season:
-
3 p.m. October 7th at Willowbrook High School
-
4:30 p.m. October 13th at Redmond Park in Bensenville
Contact Coach Berry with any questions.
Fall Play “Leaving Iowa” Takes Stage October 12, 13 and 14
Fenton High School’s Theater Department and its 2023 State Champion Stage Crew present “Leaving Iowa” for its annual Fall Play this October.

His loving memories of family road trips is told with numerous flashbacks amidst his own children’s lack of interest.
Show dates are scheduled for 7 p.m. on October 12, 13 and 14. Senior Citizens are invited to a free seniors matinee show at 1 p.m. on October 14.
Senior Citizens can reserve a spot at the October 14 free senior matinee by call (630) 860-8620. The senior matinee includes complimentary coffee and cookies.

Middle School Bands Join Fenton at Home Football Game
Band students from Blackhawk Middle School and Wood Dale Junior High joined with the Mighty Bison Marching Band during Fenton’s Thursday, October 5 home football game at Triton College.
Band Director Mr. Garett George coordinated the on-field performances during pregame and halftime festivities, as well as in-game crowd pep boosts. The middle school band night is one of many efforts Fenton and its feeder schools coordinate in order to build excitement and a smooth transition into high school.
