Update from Interim Superintendent Bentsen
Dear Fenton School Community,
Monday was Veterans Day and we honored members of the Fenton Family and the local community who sacrificed much of themselves to protect our freedoms. Fenton students were once again a big part of the Bensenville Veterans Day Breakfast at White Pines Golf Club.
Many of our servicemen and servicewomen come home with invisible wounds, so it’s important to thank them and support them every chance we get.
Thank you to the Fenton Band for the elegant music as everyone arrived, and to our choir singers for performing the National Anthem and God Bless America.
Congratulations to Thomas Klos (3rd Place), Leslie Diaz (2nd Place), and Aidan Wazir (1st Place) for winning the Defenders of Freedom Essay Contest. The many heroes in attendance were moved and impressed by our students. Two watch a video of the students reading their essays, click here or on the Facebook preview below.
Jassen Strokosch, Chief of Staff for the Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs, was one of the dignitaries in attendance. He was so impressed that he plans to publish copies of the essays in their November newsletter, which goes to veterans and community leaders all over Illinois.
Matthew Baker, a retired Major General for the United States Army, was the event’s keynote speaker and he joined the photo because he wanted to meet our Fenton writers.
It was such a proud moment for our military history teacher, Mr. Kekstadt. Well done!
We also celebrated the current and retired service members in the Fenton Family. Principal Ward led a video showcasing staff, family members of our staff, family members of our students, and alumni who currently or previously served in the Armed Forces. Thank you to everyone who shared. To watch the video, click here or on the YouTube preview below.
School Board Members Day
To commemorate School Board Members Day on Friday, we join with the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Association of School Boards in recognizing the nearly 6,000 elected school board members throughout Illinois who are committed to serving their communities.
More specifically, we are deeply grateful for our Fenton school board members. Their time commitment and preparation as a school board member plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our students.
Parent Resources
Fenton’s Padres Unidos meets on Thursday, November 21 to review “The importance of a nutritious diet” and “Information about services health".
We have similar resources available on December 4 and December 10 from our new affiliation with the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS), a large group of area schools working together to find guest speakers and produce informative literature to help families navigate life with a growing teenager.
Most programs in the Glenbard Parent Series programs are virtual and can be joined from home over the internet, and all presentations are free. We plan to communicate various upcoming presentations as the year progresses, but we invite you to bookmark their website https://gpsparentseries.org/ and sign up for their emails.
Here is their lineup for December:
Let us know if you have any questions.

Interim Superintendent
Fenton is Hosting a Career Fair on Wednesday, November 20th
Fenton is hosting a Career Fair on Wednesday, November 20th during all lunch periods and students will have the opportunity to meet industry professionals from more than 50 businesses and organizations.
This is an important opportunity for students who are still unsure about their potential career after high school, as well as for students who have a goal but could benefit from some advice on how to achieve their goal.
We encourage families to talk with their students about their interests and passions and what careers those could translate into. Build a list of questions and bring them to school on Wednesday.
The Career Fair is a great opportunity to network with a professional who might provide advice or inspiration both now and in the future. Students will have the chance to explore diverse career opportunities by talking with people who do those jobs and achieve those goals.
The media team at the Village of Bensenville produced an incredible TV segment for the local Public Access Channel during last year’s Fenton Career Fair. If you have time, please watch the segment and learn more about what Fenton is doing to introduce students to potential career paths. Click here or on the YouTube preview below.
Please contact Michelle Papanicolaou, Fenton’s Director of Postsecondary Pathways, if you have any questions about the Career Fair: papanicolaou@fenton100.org
Underclass Students Visit Northwestern
A group of freshmen and sophomore students toured Northwestern University on Wednesday, November 13th with Mrs. Rachel Georgakis and Fenton’s College & Career Center. Students learned about the benefits of college, what parts of the university serve what function, and the types of classes they should take in high school to prepare for college.
Four Students Named to ILMEA District 1 Ensembles
Congratulations to the following Band and Choir students for being selected into the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) District 1 ensembles. They were recognized and performed in the District 1 Festival on Saturday, November 9 at Elmhurst University.
These musicians worked so very hard preparing their audition material for the last 7 weeks by meeting for weekly preparation sessions, and submitting mock auditions.

Fenton Blood Drive Helps 120 Patients
Students, staff, and community members were saving lives once again. Fenton’s November 7th blood drive collected 40 units of blood and helped 120 future hospital patients.
The annual spring blood drive was coordinated and operated by the Student Council, with strong support from Ms. Christine Casterton. A special thank you to Versiti Blood Centers for being our partner and allowing our students to engage in meaningful community service.
The next blood drive will be in the Spring on March 19th.
Community members can get a $500 referral prize if they recommend a bus driver who gets hired.

Architecture at the Forefront of Hiking Chicago’s Lakefront
Fenton’s Hiking Club enjoyed the beach one last time by trekking across Chicago’s Lakefront for a brisk afternoon on Sunday, November 10th. Students saw geological changes, human-invented barriers, dipped their toes in the cold water, and, of course, marveled at the Chicago skyline.
