Update from Superintendent Ongtengco

Dear Fenton Families,

We celebrate the Incredible Class of 2023 on Sunday. This group of seniors is the last to know what Fenton was like before the pandemic, and they’ve done an amazing job making sure the next three graduating classes know what is expected of them.

Dr. Bentsen addresses the Class of 2023

We will have more thoughts and photos in next week’s newsletter, but right now I want to urge the Class of 2023 to never stop learning. Whether it’s skills, academic, or social-emotional, you choosing to learn will open doors for you and enrich your life.

Graduates are encouraged to keep in touch by filling out the New Alumni Form to receive updates from Fenton High School. Click here to submit your contact information so we can send you news and other information.

On another topic, I want to give a huge Bison Shout Out to all our volunteers, sponsors, and attendees who made Fenton's 2nd Annual Spring Kermes (our third festival overall) such a success. We do this every September and every May, and all proceeds benefit Fenton students. I am in awe after seeing the support we received from our neighbors and local business community. We saw people of all backgrounds visit our stadium to enjoy authentic Latino food and music. Our soccer tournament was epic, and we cheered on so many 5K runners. This event unifies our community and provides joy to our children.

Fenton Faces Recipients Celebrated at Breakfast

Fenton High School has a recognition program we call "Fenton Faces." This program acknowledges dedicated students for their outstanding aptitude, participation, or specific contributions to a class.

Each department is asked to select a couple of students per 9-week grading period as its Fenton Face(s). The teacher nominating the student for this honor is asked to write a few sentences about the student and why they were selected.

Students selected in the second semester were honored during a breakfast before school on Tuesday, May 16. Partway through the breakfast, Principal Bentsen called up each student and he read the nomination from their teacher before awarding each student with a certificate.

                                      Kermes a Huge Success

Thank you to all of the donors, volunteers, and attendees of Fenton’s 2nd Annual Spring Kermes on Saturday, May 6 in the Fenton's stadium.

Festivities began with a 5K walk/run, followed by a robust 3 vs 3 soccer tournament, a tour of the championship soccer trophy, performances from the Fenton mariachi band, guest performance from Grupo Norteno Band, kids games, and authentic Latino food all day long.

The variety of Latino food cooked on the spot was a huge attraction!

Thank you to all our sponsors, partners, and guest speakers -- especially the Bensenville Park District and State Representative Norma Hernandez.

All proceeds will go toward Fenton students.

Kamil Markowski Signs to Play Soccer in College

Fenton senior Kamil Markowski recently decided to continue his soccer career at Tiffin University, an NCAA Division II school located in Tiffin, Ohio. Kamil played center back for the Fenton Bison.

“I want to give a big thank you to Coach Ruiz,” Kamil said. “Being coached by him and being named captain of his team is something I will cherish forever. He has helped me become a better player, person, and leader on and off the field. Coach Ruiz believed in me even when I couldn’t see it sometimes.”

Kamil was a vital part of the Fenton boys soccer program winning back-to-back Regional Championships in 2021 and 2022. Coach Ruiz said the achievement is due in large part because of Kamil’s leadership, and his ability to make others around him better and more confident.

Friends and teammates are important to Kamil. He thanked them for their support throughout his high school and soccer careers.

“I would also like to thank my father, who has always been my number one supporter my whole life,” Kamil said. “He has always taught me to never give up and never give anything less than my best.”

Congratulations, Kamil!
