Update from Interim Superintendent Bentsen

Dear Fenton School Community,

Spring Break has arrived! We hope you enjoy some time with friends and family, and come back on April 7 ready for the final push of the school year.

Spring Break Construction

Our construction team will take big steps during this quiet week off. We continue to be on track for an August completion and optimistic about what we are seeing during tours of the construction site.

This new STEM Wing will feature 12 state of the art science and technology classrooms that will empower our teachers to expand their curriculum and take their students’ imagination to new heights, inspiring countless students for decades to come.

Asbestos is being removed from under floor tiles in one classroom in the 1200 hallway, as well as from flooring in the north stairwell and a small portion of the 1200 hallway that connects to the stairwell. The affected areas will be sealed and waste removed according to state law. We’ve been assured the project will be completed prior to students and staff returning to school on April 7.

Portions of the area where abatement will occur is going to become a hallway that connects to the new STEM wing, and completing this abatement work over Spring Break allows for that connection to begin immediately when school ends in May.

Similarly, we already followed through with plans to temporarily cut power to part of the building in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 29 so that construction crews can connect the new STEM Wing’s electrical system into our main electrical grid.

We don’t anticipate these projects disrupting any student or staff activities.

Fenton Leadership Update

As we look beyond Graduation, I’m pleased to share that Fenton will maintain continuity of leadership into the 2025-2026 school year.

The Fenton Board of Education at Wednesday’s meeting approved the appointment of three interim members of our leadership team to the positions they currently serve in.

These appointments include:
  • Dr. Sam Bentsen (myself) as Superintendent for the 2025-2026 school year
  • Ms. Kate Ward as Associate Superintendent/Principal for the 2025-2026, 2026-2027, and 2027-2028 school years
  • Ms. Stephanie Jackson as Director of Learning and Division Leader for English and Social Studies for the 2025-2026 school year

I am humbled and thankful for the opportunity to continue in this new role I’ve assumed this year. We are in the midst of an exceptional school year marked by renewed trust, steady progress, and strong, productive relationships across the district. This would not be possible without the strong leadership of  Ms. Ward and Ms. Jackson, and the dedication of our incredible students and staff.

This continuity allows the Board of Education to conduct a proper search for a new Superintendent, who is anticipated to start July 1, 2026 -- after I retire. I will assist the Board of Education, at their discretion, with their outside superintendent search and then support the selected candidate in a smooth transition.

Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for your partnership.

Scholarship Applications are due April 10

The scholarships listed on this page are for Fenton students only. It is guaranteed that at least one Fenton student will receive each of the scholarships listed on this page.

You must submit all scholarship applications via GoingMerry by 11:59 pm on Thursday, April 10. You will need to first create an account on the site to apply for these scholarships. Read the directions on each individual application carefully, as they all are different from one another. Missing materials or information may result in the disqualification of your application.

Some applications require letters of recommendation.  You can either upload them to the application, submit hard copies of your letter(s) to Ms. McDougal by the deadline, or you or your recommender can e-mail them to her at mcdougal@fenton100.org. If you have letters of recommendation that are already in Schoolinks, please e-mail Ms McDougal to let her know which staff member's letter you'd like to use.

Some applications require essays.  Remember that these are formal essays, similar to what you would submit for a class or a college application, so we recommend that you write and edit them in another program first and then cut and paste into the box.
To get started, please click here

If you have questions, please reach out to Ms McDougal!

Fenton Feeds its Neighbors

More than 20 Fenton students joined Mr. Kambic, Dr. Koranda, Ms. Ciupuliga, and Ms. Vasilikos to pack food from Northern Illinois Food Bank and distribute to neighbors in need during a mobile food pantry on Tuesday, March 25.

This special event was organized in partnership with the Bensenville-Wood Dale Food Pantry and allowed students to learn valuable lessons about teamwork and community service.

In total, 200 families received enough food for a couple of days worth of meals. That little bit can make a big difference to families navigating work shortages or suffering unexpected expenses.

Thank you to our student volunteers for generously donating your time and compassion. Shout Out to Fenton parent Mr. David Johnson for also joining the team!

Fenton Blood Drive Helps 147 Patients

Students, staff, and community members were saving lives once again. Fenton’s March 19th blood drive collected 49 units of blood and helped 147 future hospital patients.

The annual spring blood drive was coordinated and operated by the Student Council, with strong support from Ms. Christine Casterton. A special thank you to Versiti Blood Centers for being our partner and allowing our students to engage in meaningful community service.

New this year was the Double Red Cell Donations, also known as Power Red or Super Red. Donors who agreed to this new option sat for twice as much time as the machines collected blood and separated the red blood cells from the plasma platelets and then returned the plasma to the donor. This procedure allowed for twice as much blood to be collected from one person and for the blood to be used by hospitals much quicker. Fifteen (15) Fenton donors volunteered for the Double Red Cell Donation.

The next blood drive will be in July.

Fenton nominates SHEroes

The month of March is Women's History Month, and Fenton celebrated the incredible success and achievements of strong women in our community and all over the world. One such activity was nominating a SHEro to be displayed on the glass wall of the student cafeteria. Students and staff selected famous individuals, family members, and colleagues.

Theater Students Qualify for State!

Congratulations to Fenton's Contest Play AND Group Interpretation for both winning Sectional Championships on March 22 at Reavis High School. This is the first time in known history that both theater groups won their Sectional Championship at the same time.
Both groups will compete at the IHSA State Finals for their respective events on Friday, March 28. The performers, friends, classmates, family, and staff gathered for a State Bound Sendoff Thursday morning.

Softball Player Signs to Play in College

Congratulations to Elizabeth "Izzy" Delgado for signing to continue her softball career at Triton College. Delgado was recognized last July for being selected to the Illinois Softball Coaches Association All-State 3rd Team at the catcher position for the 2023 - 2024 school year. She was filling in for an injured teammate last year and this season has returned to her normal spot in center field. The Bison Fastpitch Team started this season strong with a 20-2 victory over Streamwood in their season opener on Tuesday, March 25.
