Update from Superintendent Ongtengco
Dear Fenton Families,
We finally reached Spring Break! Since 2023 began, we explored careers together, quizzed visiting college reps, hosted concerts, fundraisers, and several State Bound sendoffs. It’s been a busy 2023 and I’m proud of our Fenton Bison and all the teachers and staff who support them. Now it’s time to recharge. Enjoy your friends and family, reconnect with your hobbies, and find some time to explore our wonderful community. We cruised into this week off thanks to another incredible Spirit Week from Assistant Principal Julia Bray. The culture and climate we have at Fenton is so awesome. I loved seeing all the unique outfits (especially the Adam Sandler tributes) throughout the week. Making school fun is a key component to student success. We want all our Fenton Bison to feel connected and excited to be here. That mentality helps learning flow naturally.
Once we return to school in April the final home stretch of this school year will begin. April and May will be filled with tougher class lessons, final projects, and, for some, the last performances at Fenton. Let’s recharge and come back ready for that final push!
With that being said, mark your calendars! Fenton’s 2023 Commencement Ceremony will be held at Fenton High School Fieldhouse on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at noon. Graduation is actually my favorite part of the school year. I love seeing that feeling of accomplishment and pride on our students’ faces. All seniors should have received a notice about tickets and parking. Similarly, cap and gowns have arrived and will be distributed on Wednesday, April 5th during all lunch periods in the cafeteria. If you did not order your cap and gown, you can order online now at www.herffjonesil.com or by calling 815-756-4743. You can also purchase one on delivery day for $55 cash. If you have any questions, call the principal’s office at (630) 860-6251.
Finally, as I mentioned above, we’ve celebrated a lot of great accomplishments these past few months. I want to give one more Huge Bison Shout Out to Aiden Torres for making the Illinois Music Education Education Association All State Honors Choir and to our Silver Medal Basketball Olympians. Both groups were recognized by the Fenton Board of Education during our March 22 meeting.
Aiden, who gave a touching tribute to his wonderful mom, represented Fenton on the highest stage in Illinois. There is no greater acknowledgement of skill and passion than the Honors Choir. Congratulations Aiden!
And our Basketball Olympians, they knocked off so many powerhouse teams on their way to the championship game at Illinois State University. Coach Simon Sanchez told a heroeing story about how our Mighty Bison were always within reach and their determination frustrated the eventual champions. Second in State is still a monumental achievement, and we thank all our basketball olympians for sharing their legacy with us Wednesday night.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to send an email to fentonhelp@fenton100.org

Parents Invited to Complete 5Essentials Survey
We’ve been through a lot together these last few years, and Fenton will continue to aggressively pursue the needs of our students. Our parents and guardians at home are instrumental partners in education, and we value their feedback.
As we continue forward, parents are invited to participate in the 2022-23 annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of every child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity allows you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness.
To take the survey please visit survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois. Your participation will help us understand your child’s conditions and guide our improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. We hope to get 100 percent participation from our Fenton family! Tell us what you think and how we can improve.
Thank you for your support.
Fenton Blood Drive Helps 147 Patients
Students, staff, and community members were saving lives once again. Fenton’s March 22 blood drive collected 49 units of blood and helped 147 future hospital patients. The goal was 47 units, which Fenton exceeded thanks to 16 first time donors.
The annual spring blood drive was coordinated and operated by the Student Council, with strong support from Ms. Christine Casterton. A special thank you to Versiti Blood Centers for being our partner and allowing our students to engage in meaningful community service.
Save the Date: Fenton Cinco de Mayo Kermes
Fenton’s newest fundraiser returns on Saturday, May 6. Mark your calendar for a day of food, music, face painting, and games.
This annual event was spearheaded by School Board Member Leo Figueroa, who will spend several nights helping prepare the many different dishes available for purchase. The menu typically includes Tacos, Gorditas, Tamales, Sopes, Tortas, Enchiladas, Fried Tilapia, Fresca, and more!
A soccer tournament and 5K race typically kicks off the Kermes at 10 am and a band closes out the Kermes in the evening. More details will be posted our website fenton100.org as the date gets closer.
This is a family-friendly event is co-sponsored by the Bensenville Park District and open to the public. Remember, all proceeds benefit Fenton students!
Contest Drama Goes to State!
Congratulations to the cast and crew of our Contest Drama production "Sylvia" for winning their Sectional Championship last weekend and advancing to the IHSA State Finals on Saturday, March 25. We had a wonderful State Bound sendoff for them Thursday morning.
Sylvia is a Broadway comedy about a man who adopts a dog during his mid-life crisis and all of the dog's antics that cause friction between him and his wife.
Fenton’s production eventually placed 9th in State on Saturday. Congratulations!
Group Interpretation Goes to State!
Can you imagine that? Our Group Interpretation cast and musicians of "Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend" advanced to the IHSA State Finals on Saturday, March 25! We had a wonderful State Bound sendoff Thursday morning.
Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend is based on a book written by a school teacher. The story is narrated by the main character’s imaginary friend, who protects him during awkward situations. But when the boy is kidnapped by his teacher, this imaginary friend ultimately has to decide between living as an imaginary friend with the boy in captivity or phasing into real life for a split second to save the boy but at the cost of his own life.
Congratulations to the cast and musicians for being State Finalists!
New Football Coach Visits Fenton
Fenton’s new head football coach Shane McNally was on campus Thursday, March 23 for a meet and greet with players. He was available during all lunch periods and shared some of his background and future goals for the Mighty Bison. McNally is an offensive-minded coach who joins Fenton from Proviso West.
Academic Team Welcomes Blackhawk Students
Fenton’s Academic Team recently welcomed several students and parents from Blackhawk Middle School to a friendly few rounds of trivia. This recruiting event also served as a bridgeway into high school and a glimpse into the next chapter of their lives. Thank you to Academic Team coaches Jon Aguilar, Mike Laudermith, and Linda Santinello for building that bridge (and the fun quizzes).
