Update from Interim Superintendent Bentsen
Dear Fenton School Community,
As we settle into second semester, we want to remind everyone of the vital role attendance plays in our students’ success. Attendance was a big focus for us during semester one and will continue into this new year. Last semester, we saw a great increase in our students being on-time to their classes during the day. In December, we placed a special focus on students arriving at school on-time and saw improvements in that area as well. Our work on attendance will continue into the second semester. A new semester brings a fresh start, and having regular attendance helps set a strong foundation for academic achievement and personal growth.
Winter weather and seasonal challenges can make this time of year difficult, but regular attendance supports not just academic progress, but also mental and emotional well-being by keeping students connected to their teachers and peers.
Let’s work together to make attendance and punctuality a priority. Your support in ensuring your student is present and engaged each day makes a lasting impact on their success. Thank you for your partnership as we continue striving for excellence this semester!
All-State Honors Choir
Congratulations to Jan Olmos for being selected to the Illinois Music Education Association’s All-State Honors Choir. That is the highest, most prestigious ensemble in Illinois. Jan and Choir Director Mrs. Seredy Williams will travel to Peoria and participate in the All-State Festival later this month.
The Fenton Board of Education recognized Jan for his incredible efforts during their January 22 meeting.
Jan puts forth considerable time and effort toward practicing and performing for an audience. He participates in Swing Choir, Concert Choir, he’s performed in the Solo and Ensemble Contest, and he’s been featured in the Spaghetti with a Song fundraiser.
Thank you Jan for putting our incredible school in the spotlight.
Future Freshmen!
Thank you to all our students, teachers, coaches, club sponsors, and support staff who made Thursday’s Future Freshmen Night such a success. Can you believe it, next year’s newest students will be the Class of 2029!
Our future students enjoyed incredible performances from our Cheer Squad, Dance Force, and Swing Choir during Interim Principal Kate Ward’s welcome remarks.
They also browsed all the tables featuring clubs, athletics, and elective courses to choose from. Meeting coaches, teachers, and other students is a big deal for these rising stars.
Special breakout sessions were available with more detailed information on Career Pathways, extracurricular athletics and activities, student supports, grading and curriculum, Padres Unidos, and a general Q & A forum.
Our Link Crew was amazing at guiding our guests throughout the building to each of these areas. An important part of transitioning to a new school is having a friendly face and a good example to look up to.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On Monday, January 20 our school joined the country in commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who devoted his life to fighting for civil rights. Each and every day, we all must continue to strive for a more welcoming and inclusive community, one that is free of bias and hate. Together we can make his dream a reality.
Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for your partnership.
Sam Bentsen, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent

An Honorable Performance!
Benjamin Sanchez, Lita Aguilar, Julia Windham, Brandon Fontanez, Matylda Piskorz, and Garrett Wawczak were among 65-to-70 of the best musicians in the Midwest when they took the stage on Saturday, January 18th in Hammerschmidt Chapel as part of the Elmhurst University Midwest Honor Band. This achievement is a big addition to their musical resumes. Congratulations!
Three Time the Musical Power
Fenton extends a Huge Bison Shout Out to the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from Blackhawk Middle School and Wood Dale Junior High for their impressive performances during the Tri-District Choral Festival on Friday, January 17th.
The younger students traveled to Fenton and spent time learning from the high school students, before joining them on stage and singing as one family.
This annual event is a celebration of the schools’ joint love of music, and a way to inspire each other to continue working hard.
Eighth graders interested in continuing with music should contact their new Fenton counselor.
Thank you to our current Fenton Bison for sharing your wisdom and answering questions from the middle school students.
Dance Force Brings Home the Trophies
Congratulations to the Fenton Dance Force. In recent weeks they took third place at the Upstate Eight Conference Tournament and first place in the hip hop division of the Illinois Drill Team Association (IDTA) regional competition.
Dance Force was also wonderful and gracious enough invite Blackhawk Middle School’s dance team to perform side-by-side during a Fenton basketball game.
Way to go Dance Force!
