Update from Superintendent Ongtengco
Dear Fenton Families,
We’ve struck another win for our students. Fenton offers breakfast and lunch (both are eligible for the free or reduced price meals program), but starting Monday, March 6 we will also be offering an “After School Supper” program that’s free for students and available in our cafeteria five days per week. As we all know, it’s difficult to focus when you’re hungry. This is especially true for our growing students, and a main reason why Fenton has always been a champion for programs that put more food on the table for our students and families. The After School Supper program will be slowly phased in with a few activities at a time. Please keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks.
This new After School Supper program is designed to make sure the students in our clubs and sports programs are able to focus during these extra efforts. Many of these students stay at school for long hours after the last bell of the day. Being a conference, regional, or state champion takes a lot of practice and commitment. Our students shouldn’t have to worry about packing yet another meal in their bag before leaving home, and they definitely shouldn’t be thinking about how hungry they are when their coach or sponsor is trying to teach them a new skill.
Instructor of the Year
Congratulations to Fenton's very own Mark Drelicharz, who on Tuesday was recognized as a Career & Technical Education Instructor of the Year by the DuPage Area Occupational Education System (DAOES) as well as College of DuPage.
DAOES is an Illinois Education for Employment (EFE) system responsible for planning for the delivery of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in this geographical area. Fenton operates its CTE classes under the guidance of DAOES, which means they know an awesome teacher when they see one.
Mr. Drelicharz is a leader in our school as an instructional coach, he’s a strong teacher in the classroom who inspires our students, and he is outstanding at developing industry partnerships that bring new and innovative learning opportunities to our students. We are very fortunate to have Mr. Drelicharz on staff and couldn’t be more proud of him.
Talent Show
Wow. We had 11 incredible performances Thursday night for our annual “So You Think You’re All That Talent Show.” Congratulations to Nate Rodriguez for winning the big prize. Your performance was definitely not a C, but rather an A+++. Nate’s comedy routine was actually the same performance that landed him in the Speech State Finals and 6th best in all of Illinois!
A Huge Bison Shout Out to all the student performers who shared their passions with our school community. It’s not easy to get on stage in front of a large crowd. Students who get involved in the school climate and culture often feel more comfortable investing themselves in the classroom. There’s nothing better than excited and empowered students.
I hope our Fenton Families are enjoying the three day weekend!
Let's Go Bison!

Parents Invited to Complete 5Essentials Survey
We’ve been through a lot together these last few years, and Fenton will continue to aggressively pursue the needs of our students. Our parents and guardians at home are instrumental partners in education, and we value their feedback.
As we continue forward, parents are invited to participate in the 2022-23 annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of every child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity allows you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness.
To take the survey please visit survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois. Your participation will help us understand your child’s conditions and guide our improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. We hope to get 100 percent participation from our Fenton family! Tell us what you think and how we can improve.
Thank you for your support.
Interact Club Helps Build Mental Health Kits for Local Nonprofit
Huge Shout Out to our Fenton Interact Club (junior Rotarians) for volunteering to assemble 250 mental health kits for Northeast DuPage Family & Youth Services, a local nonprofit that provides counseling and crisis intervention services to youth and families. Our Fenton students spent about two and half hours on Saturday, February 25, carefully organizing and packing several items into small boxes for NEDFYS to eventually give to youth in local schools. This act of compassion will make a big difference in our community and our neighboring communities. Way to go Bison!
