Update from Interim Superintendent Bentsen
Dear Fenton School Community,
We’ve had a remarkable start to the school year and we have so many student achievements ahead of us. I’m thankful for our incredible teachers and staff who came back to school rejuvenated and ready to make a difference. Our students are showing up eager to learn and grow together.
One great way to bond as a school community is through spirit weeks. Assistant Principal Julia Bray has organized another exciting week of themes starting Monday, August 19. Check out our flier below and use this weekend to prepare some awesome spirit! This is a school-wide fun activity that serves as conversation starters and helps us get to know each other. We encourage everyone to participate!
Open House is another great way for our families and Fenton High School to get to know each other. We want school and home to work as one. This year’s Open House is set for Thursday, August 29. Mark your calendars! Parents and guardians can meet all your student’s teachers, put a face to the name, exchange goals and expectations for your student, and start the school year squarely on the same page.
We plan to continue with our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), Padres Unidos, and Polish Parent Outreach for families to stay connected to Fenton throughout the year. We’re also introducing a new resource for families known as the Glenbard Parent Series. It’s a large group of area schools working together to find guest speakers and produce informative literature to help families navigate life with a growing teenager.
Most programs in the Glenbard Parent Series programs are virtual and can be joined from home over the internet, and all presentations are free. We plan to communicate various upcoming presentations as the year progresses, but we invite you to bookmark their website www.gpsparentseries.org/ and sign up for their emails.
Here is their first lineup of the year:
Again, welcome back. Let us know if you have any questions about the new year.
Sam Bentsen, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent
Board of Education Celebrates Elizabeth Delgado

Elizabeth led the team in games played (all 37 games), at bats, batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, hits, triples, home runs (tied), runs batted in, runs scored, fewest strikeouts, and most defensive putouts.
Elizabeth thanked her coaches, teammates, and family for supporting her growth and contributing to her success.
Freshmen Get Grand Welcome to Bison Nation
Fenton is excited to welcome the Freshmen Class of 2028. Most of these newest students attended Freshmen Orientation on August 8 and met Interim Principal Kate Ward, members of the Bison Link Crew, and other fellow freshmen. Attendees enjoyed several fun get-to-know-you activities leading up to a tour of the building.
A huge thank you to the incredible Bison Link Crew, which consists of returning students who volunteer to be the link between freshmen and everything Fenton. Thank you for living The Bison Way and being the emerging leaders and innovators of the future.
These Link Crew leaders will continue to assist freshmen and parents during various events and school functions throughout the year. Freshmen are encouraged to stay in touch with their new Link Crew friends.

A Perfect First Day of School
Fenton started the 2024-2025 school year with the Bison Band drumline welcoming the Freshmen Class of 2028 at 8 a.m. Wednesday, August 14. Freshmen were able to walk through their whole schedule and meet all their teachers briefly before sophomores, juniors, and seniors arrived at 10 a.m. All students then used the Late Start schedule until dismissal at 3:15 p.m. The day went smoothly and students were happy to be back.

Fenton Student Learns from the Best at Washington D.C. Journalism Conference
Junior Valeria Di Tullio enjoyed a week in Washington D.C. this July after being selected to represent Bensenville, IL as a National Youth Correspondent to the 2024 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University.
Valeria was joined by a select group of students from all over the country for an intensive study of journalism and media. All students were chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in journalism and media studies. Valeria’s focus was on photography.
National Youth Correspondents participate in hands-on, experiential learning through decision-making simulations that challenge them to solve problems and explore the creative, practical, and ethical tensions inherent in journalism and media. Students also learned from guest speakers who are well-known leaders in the media community, such as prominent journalists, CEOs of major media outlets, researchers, and recent college graduates who successfully entered the field.
Valeria has taken several photo classes here at Fenton with Ms. JoAnna Rieger and she hopes to one day work as a sports photographer. This year Valeria was chosen to be Ms. Rieger’s assistant in teaching the Photo 1 class, a role that is rarely offered. Another big achievement was last year when Valeria’s photo was selected to be the cover of the Fenton High School student planner.
Her favorite part of the trip was taking photos of the Capital building and experimenting with different angles, lighting, or neighboring scenery. She said visiting Washington D.C. was a once in a lifetime experience she will never forget. After hearing all the keynote speakers, Valeria said she felt very lucky to learn from so many important industry professionals.
Eagle Scout Project Enhances Fenton, Supports Garden Club
Thank you to Junior Michael Mroszczak for choosing an Eagle Scout project, as part of Boy Scout Troop 47, that enhances the look of Fenton High School and the experience our students have every day.
Michael donated two benches for the Fenton cafeteria courtyard, where students can sit during lunch periods and enjoy the relaxing nature created and maintained by the Fenton Garden Club. He also donated excess fundraising money totalling $310 to the Garden Club for their future learning and beautification activities.
Dr. Sam Bentsen and Assistant Principal Julia Bray met with Michael and his father in late May to formally accept both donations.
The benches were fabricated with recycled materials and then assembled by Michael and his team the week before May’s final exams.
Michael started raising money to buy the benches last summer. Some of his activities included selling Krispy Kreme donuts at Jewel-Osco with great support from the Village of Bensenville, Bensenville Police Department, Bensenville Fire Department, Boy Scout Troop 47, and Bensenville & Wood Dale residents, as well as friends & family. Michael also coordinated a used sneaker/gym shoes collection at the Bensenville Tree Lighting Ceremony, First United Methodist Church, and Fenton High School to recycle the materials for a modest profit.
This Eagle Scout project united our community around the betterment of students at Fenton High School. Thank you, Michael, and congratulations!
Mr. Janik's Son Gets Drafted into MLB
Congratulations to Fenton Teacher Ron Janik and his entire family. Mr. Janik's son, Camden Janik, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates this summer and recently signed his first contract.
Fellow teachers and staff celebrated the monumental life event by wearing custom Pittsburgh Pirates t-shirts with "Janik" on the back during today's staff institute day.
Camden Janik plays the catcher position and while at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign this past year, he was named to the All-American Third Team as well as the All-Region First Team, and he was All-Big Ten Conference First Team.
