Update from Interim Superintendent Bentsen
Dear Fenton School Community,
I am Dr. Sam Bentsen, Fenton’s Interim Superintendent. Many of you already know me from our many school events and student celebrations over the years.
The Board of Education voted unanimously in March to appoint me as District 100’s Interim Superintendent. I will also continue to be Associate Superintendent and Principal to maintain continuity. I look forward to earning your trust in this new role and partnering with you on our joint mission of educating our future leaders.
I started serving at Fenton in July 2018. Prior to that I served multiple district and building level roles at nearby DuPage High School District 88. Working together we can achieve our goals, generate new ideas, and support our children each and every day. Fenton is a great place to be with great traditions due to our dedicated teachers, students, parents, and community partners.
This week is state mandated testing, which occurs on Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18.
The SAT is an important test for juniors who would like to continue their education beyond Fenton and into a college, university, or trade school. The PSAT 9 and PSAT 10 helps our freshmen and sophomores prepare for the SAT, but those tests are also valuable data points for us to know how our students are progressing.
Click here to see the testing schedule on our website. Students only need to be present for their required testing day.
And then all students have Friday, April 19 off of school. It’s a non-attendance day for students. We hope you enjoy the extra long weekend.
Finally, I want to promote our outstanding theater students and make sure everyone knows about our spring show “SpongeBob The Musical.” The show is open to the public with performances starting at 7 p.m. on April 25, April 26, and April 27. Please spread the word and join us for a fun evening.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Sam Bentsen, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent
Associate Superintendent/Principal

Fenton Organizes School-Wide Eclipse Viewing
All Fenton students were able to view the rare solar eclipse on Monday, April 8 thanks to teachers in our science department, technology department, and Assistant Principal Julia Bray’s office team.
This was a rare instance when the moon passed between the Earth and the Sun at a certain angle that resulted in the sun being completely blocked for a few moments.
A special schedule was created to allow for Bison Time later in the day, when classes watched an educational video about eclipses, received free protective glasses, and then went outside at the peak viewing time to view the solar eclipse.
Need a Summer Job? Fenton Seeks Student Workers
Fenton’s Building, Grounds, and Transportation Department needs several summer workers to do routine school maintenance. Some of the positions involve outdoor tasks while other positions focus on needs inside the building. Students should be available to work between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting the last week of May. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the Building, Grounds, and Transportation Department office -- Room 934 in the music hallway (before you get to the Athletic Department Office).
Caution on Campus Grass
District 100 will be applying fertilizer, herbicide and vegetation control throughout Fenton High School grounds starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
The best weed prevention is a healthy lawn and the majority of the applications will be feed for the grass. A limited amount of weed control will also be used in very low concentrations. All EPA guidelines will be followed. The chemical dries in less than an hour. For further information, please contact Building & Grounds at 630-860-6274.
