Update from Superintendent Ongtengco
Dear Fenton Families,
We have a busy final few weeks of the school year, packed with lots of award nights, prom, and graduation.
Amid all these important school functions we are welcoming a new school board member and a new school board president. The DuPage County Clerk’s election staff recently certified the results from our April 4 election and all changes were implemented during Fenton’s April 26 Board of Education meeting.
Let’s all give a Warm Bison Welcome to Mr. Reid Goodrich, who is a retired finance professional from Wood Dale. Congratulations on your election, Mr. Goodrich! The staff at Fenton High School looks forward to working with you and utilizing your many passions and rich experiences for the benefit of our students.
I also want to congratulate Cary Lewis, Leo Figueroa, and Juliet Rago on being reelected to the Fenton Board of Education. We are thrilled to have you back and to continue the positive momentum you’ve started over your prior terms of office.
Shortly after taking the oath of office, our newly constituted Board of Education voted unanimously for Mr. Lewis to assume the role of board president. Mrs. Rago was re-elected as board vice president and Mr. Figueroa was re-elected as board secretary. Congratulations to all three of you, and thank you so much for volunteering your time to lead our great school into a new era of student success.
Finally, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to Kit Tingpalpong for four years of service to Fenton Community High School District 100. Mr. Tingpalpong is a strong proponent of economic and environmental sustainability, DEI initiatives, stronger bonds with our sender districts, and so much more. He helped progress many of these topics through his leadership on the Strategic Plan 2.0 Committee and the formation of a Fenton Foundation.
Fenton’s Spring Kermes!
One of our several upcoming festivities is the 2nd Annual Spring Kermes, taking place next weekend, Saturday May 6 in the Fenton High School stadium.
This festival is a unifying symbol in our communities. It brings us together as one community to enjoy soccer, arts and crafts, music, dance, and delicious authentic Latino food. As an added bonus, all revenue generated from the kermes will go back to Fenton students. I want to give a shoutout to Board member Leo Figueroa, Columba Figuero, our Kermes Families, and the Bensenville Park District for all of their hard work and positive vibes to make these events happen.
One example of unity is a very generous $1,000 donation from Chicago White Metal Casting, a longtime corporate partner based in Bensenville. Mr. Eric Treiber stopped by on Wednesday to deliver his donation. During his visit, Mr. Treiber said:
“Chicago White Metal is honored to be able to support Fenton High School’s outstanding students through our Charitable Foundation. And we have the most profound respect for all of the faculty who mentor and guide these future leaders day in and day out. We look forward to continuing our lasting partnership for many years to come.”
Public education is an important economic and civic driver and we want the children in our community to have every opportunity to learn and master subjects and skills. Thank you to Chicago White Metal for being a leader in our community and a source of inspiration to our students. You certainly have a legacy in Bensenville and we value our ongoing partnership with you.
Fenton is still accepting donations and still has room if other businesses or community groups would like a table at the kermes. But most importantly, we want all of our students, families, staff, and neighbors to join us for an enjoyable day together at our community’s favorite high school, the Home of the Bison.
We look forward to seeing you 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 in the Fenton stadium!
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to send an email to fentonhelp@fenton100.org

Fenton Seniors Celebrate Decision Day
Students in the Class of 2023 who have chosen to continue their education beyond Fenton celebrated their choice of institutions by wearing the college apparel and attending a barbeque on Friday, April 28. Fenton’s counseling department cooked complimentary hotdogs in the cafeteria courtyard during all four lunch periods.
English 4 Students Present Research Projects at Public Showcase
Students in Fenton’s English 4 classes concluded their long term research projects by presenting their findings publicly on Tuesday, April 25 in the Bensenville Park District’s Deer Grove Leisure Center.
Teachers invited students to pick any topic they wanted, and then charged the students with "doing something" with it. This "something" ranged from a speech, podcast, digital story, storyboard - anything. English 4 focuses on students learning through experiences.
The public showcase featured a rotation of 5-minute student presentations split among three rooms. There was a morning portion and an afternoon portion.
Thank you to all of the parents, Fenton staff, and community members who attended the showcase and provided feedback to our students.
Environmentally Friendly
Students in AP Environmental Science classes with Ms. Stephanie Downen and Mr. Jeff Baeder visited Indiana Dunes National Park on Monday, April 24 to learn about unique ecosystems and the importance of conservation.
Experiencing Puerto Rican Culture
Students in Spanish 3 classes with Mrs. Amy Vazquez took a field trip on Wednesday April 26 to Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood where they walked “The 606,” which is officially the 2.7-mile Bloomingdale Trail and is the longest greenway project of a former elevated rail line in the Western Hemisphere (the second longest in the world).
Along the way, students learned all about Puerto Rican culture by visiting murals, shops, restaurants, and the National Puerto Rican Museum.
