Update from Superintendent Ongtengco
Dear Fenton Families,
In light of a traffic accident that occurred a few days ago, we at Fenton High School want to reiterate some of the common roadway rules and courtesies. We understand that everyone leads a busy life and sometimes we get a little too anxious to catch a green light or to make a turn, but the safety of our children is the highest of priorities.
School Zone
First and foremost, please be aware of Illinois law pertaining to school zones. All drivers are required to reduce their speed to 20 miles per hour while in a school zone on school days when children are present. This means 20 miles per hour during any time when it’s realistically possible that students could be outside. With Fenton being a high school, we have students arriving and departing at different times, we sometimes have class activities held outside, and we have extra curricular activities occurring outside of our building. The safest bet is to always, always go 20 miles per hour when you see this sign and always, always pay attention to the road and its surroundings.
Crosswalk Ahead
Illinois displays two signs pertaining to crosswalks – one warning drivers of an upcoming crosswalk and one pointing out exactly where the crosswalk is located. In situations where there is no traffic light, pedestrians always, always have the right of way. We encourage our students and families to be smart about when they choose to cross the road, but drivers must be aware that they are required to come to a complete stop if any person is walking in the white painted crosswalk.
We even post mobile signs inside the crosswalk. Driver’s have three pieces of signage warning of potential pedestrians crossing the road.
There are three crosswalks on Grove Avenue connecting neighborhood sidewalks to our campus, one crosswalk on Henderson Street parallel to Grove, and one crosswalk at the exit of each of our two parking lots onto Grove Avenue.
Fenton also has staff members outside during pickup and drop off to supervise our parking lots and entry points. These individuals are in charge and we expect everyone to follow their directions so that we can have a safe and orderly transition into or out of the school.
Finally, April is distracted driving awareness month. Cell phones are remarkable pieces of technology that link us to anyone and everyone in the world, but we should all focus on the road while steering two thousand pounds of steel. Whether you’re in a school zone or anywhere else, please just Drop It And Drive.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to send an email to fentonhelp@fenton100.org

Spring Musical 'Little Shop of Horrors' an Instant Sensation
A blood thirsty plant gives a nerdy florist everything he could ever want: a girlfriend, a father, fame, and glory. But at what cost? Fenton’s Spring Musical 'Little Shop of Horrors' received endless positive feedback after each show on April 20, 21, and 22. The show is based on the hit Broadway musical. This rendition included several students who were part of Fenton’s State Champion Contest Drama crew.
Special shout out to the student volunteers who assisted with the April 22 Senior Citizen Luncheon and Matinee Show. Volunteers distributed food and drinks, escorted our guests to the auditorium, and offered assistance during the show. Fenton is always honored to host our community members!

Students should be available to work between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting on May 30, 2023. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the Building, Grounds, and Transportation Department office -- Room 934 in the music hallway (before you get to the Athletic Department Office).
Drop it and Drive
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and School Resource Officer Patrick Fajardo is encouraging all students, staff, Fenton Families, and visitors to keep their eyes on the road while driving.
Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle crashes on our roads today. Using a phone in any form other than handsfree mode is not only dangerous, but in Illinois it’s illegal. Drop it and drive.
