Auditions for the fall play and freshman play are held in first weeks of the school year after school. Rehearsals last about six weeks from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A public performance of the freshman play is given in mid September and the fall play has public performances late October.
Students On Stage (SOS) begins right after the close of the fall play. Unlike the other main stage productions at Fenton, Students on Stage creates both an opportunity for developing theatrical skills and talents while also providing a greater opportunity for student leadership. Students take on the roles of directors, writers and assume a great deal more responsibility for all elements of the production. Performance for SOS is in December.
Contest drama is an IHSA activity in which students compete against other schools for the opportunity to perform in the state finals. Competitions (sectionals and state) are held in March and auditions are typically held prior to winter break.
The Spring Musical is an activity for those students who enjoy singing, acting and dancing. Auditions are held prior to the end of the first semester, but rehearsals do not begin until mid-January. Previous experience or enrollment in music or acting classes is not necessary. Public performances are given in mid to late April.
Much effort goes into creating the lighting, set construction, costumes and special effects used in all of the productions here at Fenton. Creative, hardworking students are needed for every performance to work behind the scenes.
