Acc English I Summer Reading

Dear Future Freshmen,

It is our great pleasure to be the first to welcome you to Fenton Community High School.  Our names are Cristina Ciupuliga and Nicole Hendricks, and we will be your Accelerated Freshmen English 1 teachers for the 2018-2019 school year. Our course together will be both challenging and rewarding, as we study the elements of literature, grammar, vocabulary, and writing in a fast-paced environment designed to prepare you for your high school classes and beyond.  We warn you that the class will require considerable effort on your part both in the mindset you bring to the material, as well as your willingness to push your intellectual and creative boundaries. But it is not all rigorous critical thinking development; we will also be attending professional productions of different plays.  Huzzah for the field trip! We will waste no time in getting started with our study this year as you read Mark Haddon’s novel entitled The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.  (You MUST get this book on your own. We suggest purchasing a used copy online or visiting your local library). You will find your assignments for your reading of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time attached to this letter; read them thoroughly and email us with any questions. This project is due on the first day of class at the beginning of the hour. Be prepared with your charged Chromebook and any materials that you need to have in order to check in your work with your teacher on day one. Calls will be made to parents for students who are unprepared. All summer reading materials can be found digitally below. Enjoy your summer and let the reading begin! Again, please email either of us if you have any questions at or  We look forward to having you in class.
