Black History Month Update

Today, the Black History planning team had some sample items for students during lunch periods.  We ordered enough samples that each student can have 1. They will have mac and cheese and greens.

In addition to today, some other things that we have done this month for awareness of Black History month include:

  • African American Speaker Tiffany Jeffrie
  • Quotes during announcements
  • Black Panther Movie showing
  • Music in the hallways
  • Cultural food on the lunch lines on Friday's
  • Artwork and artists in your daily bulletin
  • Performing ensembles by the band and choir that line up with cultural pieces
  • Book displays

Dusable Museum and Field trip, including show of Langston Hughes

On Tuesday, Mr Ongtengco and Ms. Brock chaperoned 22 students to the DuSable Museum to the Art of Langston Hughes exhibit. The exhibit showed Langston Hughes beyond the key figure he was in the Harlem Renaissance. His pride in the African-American identity and its diverse culture was shown in his work. Students experienced five exceptional poems, plays and stories all by this extraordinary artist.

Road to State

Winter Sports Update

The Boys Swim Team members competing at the State Swim Championships this past weekend enjoyed and learned from swimming against the best.  Nik Fischer’s preliminary swim on Friday was fast and advanced him to Saturday’s Finals in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Nik finished in 12th place earning All-State honors.  Fenton’s Medley Relay of Fischer, Conrad Oberski, Matt Janovsky and Lucas Feddersen swam fast but not fast enough to advance to the finals, with Friday’s swim capping a fine season.  Go Bison!

And Spring Update
