College Board Testing - April 9

Fenton High School will hold the College Board Suites of Testing on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. This will be a regular start day and it is imperative to be on time. ALL the tests listed below testing will begin at 8:00 am. Students should arrive and report to their room for testing.

  • SAT-for all Juniors
  • PSAT 8/9 - for all Freshman
  • PSAT 10 - for all Sophomores
  • Seal of Biliteracy - for Seniors (State of Illinois)

For SAT (Juniors)

Every Junior, (and any Senior that did not take the test in his/her junior year) is required to take the SAT. This test is both required for graduation at Fenton High School and by College Board.  This test measures students in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. It is important for all students to take the test seriously as Fenton High School reviews this data as part of how we program for each child’s success.  In addition, these scores are used at various college levels for entrance purposes. There are opportunities for potential scholarships as well.

Your child should have received a practice guide in their Bison Time classroom. If not, your child can go to College Board and access additional practice opportunities. There are scoring rubrics and essays and more. If your child has already completed these activities, they can also visit Khan Academy for additional practice.

For SAT/PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10

On the day of the test, we ask that students arrive well-rested and on time (and without Dunkin Donuts beverages).  Breakfast will be available for purchase before school. Report to your testing room with a calculator and pencil. The test is approximately 4 hours.  We will have a few five minute breaks during the test where you can stretch or use the restroom. Dismissal will be approximately 12:45 p.m.

We understand that tests do not measure everything about your child, but we hope you encourage your child to do their very best.  Our district is proud of the work and evidence each child is able to demonstrate. Thank you for your partnership and support with the important test.

Student’s testing with accommodations will test April 10th, 11th, and 12th and will receive a specific schedule for testing.

Seal of Biliteracy (Seniors)

The only Seniors required to be on campus are those testing for the Seal of Biliteracy. All other Senior students may stay home and work on other assignments.

The Seal of Biliteracy exam begins at 8:00 am. Students should report to room 218 and 220 for testing. Testing will conclude around 1:00 p.m. Students for the Seal of Biliteracy should provide their own transportation.

AP District of the Year

On March 20, Fenton celebrated with the entire student body, staff, community leaders and dignitaries as the College Board recognized us for AP Small District of the Year.

Fenton Board of Education receiving the award from AP College Board.

Congratulations have come in for District of the Year from a number of elected officials.

The Village of Bensenville and Senator Don Harmon (and the Senate of the one hundred first general assembly of Illinois) proclaimed and honored Fenton for achieving AP District of the Year. Senator Harmon made the proclamation on the senate floor in Springfield earlier this week.

Board members Leo Figueroa, Laura Wassinger, and Paul Wedemann as well as Superintendent James Ongtengco attended and received the proclamations at the Village of Bensenville Board meeting in March.

Congratulatory messages have also been received from US Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin, State Superintendent for Education Dr. Carmen Ayala, and Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi.

Please remember to complete and return the Model Release form that was sent home with students before the assembly. We will be sharing in College Board’s celebration over the next few months and want every student included.

Fenton's Spring Musical is "Working"

Our Spring musical will be “Working” based on the book by Studs Terkel. It is a musical telling the stories of various workers through interviews. Working paints a vivid portrait of the men and women that the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the phone operator, the waitress, the millworker, the mason and the housewife, just to name a few. Nominated for six Tony Awards, this classic has been updated for a modern age, featuring new songs by Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as favorites by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia and James Taylor.

Performaces will be at 7pm on April 25, 26 and 27.

Senior Citizen Matinee and Luncheon

A luncheon and special matinee performance of Working will be performed for Bensenville and Wood Dale senior citizens (62 and older) beginning at Noon on Saturday, April 27. Lunch will be served at Noon and the performance will begin at 1pm. There is no admission charge for this event but pre-registration is required.
