Fenton received the following news yesterday. This is the highest honor schools can achieve as a part of the National Speech & Debate Association.

Fenton High School Earns Prestigious National Charter Status

DES MOINES, IOWA (APRIL 30, 2019) – The National Speech & Debate Association is proud to recognize Fenton High School for earning charter membership in the organization!

Over the past three years, Fenton High School has earned more than 50 degrees for outstanding
participation in speech and debate activities. Degrees are earned by students and coaches through speech
and debate competition, community service, and leadership activities.

Charter school membership is the highest school honor you can achieve as a part of the National Speech
Association. “Participation in speech and debate changes lives,” said J. Scott Wunn, Executive Director of the National Speech Debate Association. “We are extremely proud of our charter schools, coaches, and students for their hard work and dedication to this transformative activity.”

From building confidence, improving communication, and increasing critical thinking skills, to better
preparing students for college, speech and debate activities provide life skills vital to a young person’s
success in the future. Schools that provide speech and debate programs report increased attendance, higher test scores, rise in college acceptance, and reduced drop-out rates. Charter schools reflect a sustained commitment to these values.

Decision Day

senior signingToday Fenton Class of 2019 enjoyed a barbecue as they shared their fall plans with staff and the rest of the student body. Fenton is excited to celebrate the decisions you have made for after high school! Many were wearing a t-shirt representing where they are going college or the branch of the military to serve, or where they will be working.

They also completed a form that starts with "From Fenton To:" and students completed it with their college choice, their job choice or their choice of a branch of the military.  Students were served hot dogs, chips, popcorn and water. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and students could not enjoy the courtyard, but it was an amazing day anyway. Congratulations to the Class of 2019!

We look forward to seeing the amazing things you accomplish. See some of the student's decisions here.
