Ginger E. Esler - Class of 1964
Ginger Esler has overcome many obstacles during her life and career. Just a few weeks into her sophomore year at Fenton, at the age of 15, Ginger was diagnosed with Polio, a disease which left her a quadriplegic dependent on a respirator. She completed her Fenton education via the school intercom system which was plugged into her home. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology from North Central College, and a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Ms. Esler worked as a rehabilitation counselor for the Ray Graham Association for the Handicapped and later became the coordinator for the Community Companion Volunteer program sponsored by Lutheran Community Services for the Aged. Through this program, Ginger coordinated volunteers from St. Luke's Church in Itasca and assigned them to assist families caring for frail, elderly relatives in their homes.
Sandra (Holmes) Klassen - Class of 1983
Sandra Holmes Klassen has excelled in the field of physical therapy. She is owner, administrator and physical therapist for the Bonita Springs Sports and Physical Therapy Center, Inc. in Bonita Springs, Florida. As a physical therapist she has had the opportunity to work with many professional athletes, including internationally known tennis players and NFL players.
In addition to her work at the center, Sandra also volunteers her medical services for local school athletes, the Nuveen Tennis Tour and the Hubbard Street Dance Company. She holds a bachelor's degree in athletic training and sports medicine, and a master's degree in sports medicine and exercise physiology from the University of Illinois. She also holds a second master's degree in physical therapy from the University of Osteopathic Medicine.
Jack Spence - Class of 1960
Jack Spence has been a political science professor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, since 1973. In addition to his teaching activities, Jack is president of Hemispheres Initiatives, a research organization that seeks to provide policy makers and scholars with thorough, timely and judicious analysis of the Central American peace process.
Mr. Spence has completed fieldwork for this organization in numerous Central American countries, including Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala. Jack holds a bachelor's degree from Grinnel College, a law degree from Harvard Law School, and a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.).
