Procedures

The Media Center at Fenton Community High school has a book collection of over 28,000 volumes. Special collections include picture books, Polish and Spanish languages, college and career books. The Media Center also has a periodical collection of about 200 titles, and a small collection of non-print material.

Equipment Use

    Printers- Color, as well as black & white, printers are available. To save paper, please notify a lab aide that you would like to print. School-related printing is free. Black & white printing is 10 cents per page.

    As a cost saving measure, color printing is resctricted to authoried school related assignemnts. To print in color, students must have a signed pass from a teacher that list the date, students name and assignment to be printed in color.

    Photocopying- A copy machine is available for student use in the Media Center. School-related copies are free. 10 cents per page will be charged for personal copies.

    Laptops- laptops are available for student checkout. Laptops will be checked-out at the end of the school day. If a student leaves school before 3:10 pm, it is up to the individual to make arrangements with a Media Center Staff member for early check out. Laptops must be returned before 8:00 am the following school day. A $5.00 late fee for every period the laptop is late will be charged. A Technology Equipment Contract, signed by parents, the teacher, and student, must be on file in the Media Center before a laptop can be checked-out.

    CD-Roms- Overnight checkout, listed in catalog.

    Videos and DVD's- Overnight checkout, listed in catalog.

    Computer Software- Listed in catalog, ask circulation staff.

    Scanners- There are two scanners available for student and staff use, located in the Media Center Lab and the Project Room. Ask a Lab Aide for assistance.

    Digital Cameras and Video Camcorders- A limited number are available for checkout. A Technology Equipment Contract, signed by parents, the teacher, and student, must be on file in the Media Center prior to checkout.

Lab Signup

The Media Center has a computer lab of 29 computers, a Project Room of 10 computers, and a separate computer lab (Lab 82) with 27 computers. Lab 128 is available when it is not scheduled with a class. Priority is given to English Department classes for Lab 128. All the labs contain networked, multimedia, Windows computers as well as additional table space for research.

Teachers may reserve any of the 3 computer labs for class use. There is a sign-up sheet at the circulation desk in the Media Center. Please see the Media Center staff for assistance in finding lab space.

The Media Center lab and Project Room are also open for drop-in student use before and after school and during the school day. The computers are for educational use.

Collaborative Work with Teachers

The librarians are available to help teachers plan a research project and can gather books, reference material, and online sources for class assignments. Pathfinders can be created and posted on the website listing appropriate network resources and websites.

Requests for New Materials

The Media Center staff welcomes any suggestions for new titles to be considered for the collection.

Interlibrary Loan

Books and journal articles can be borrowed from other libraries. Ask at the circulation desk for assistance.
