Philosophy:
Recognizing the need for a sensitive, multilingual citizenry, the members of the Foreign Language Department believe that the opportunity to learn a second language should be made available to all students. Through the study of foreign languages, students are aided in the development of their reasoning powers in a way unique to this discipline. Furthermore, such study leads to the broadening of interests and appreciation of the diversity of peoples and cultures. Knowledge of foreign languages and cultures enables students to improve and enrich their understanding of their own environment, as well as the larger world community, ultimately contributing to better international understanding.
